As a youngster, Devon O’Neal Kukis was encouraged to use her creativity in Girl Scouts, crafts, fashion, and sewing. Her Grandma taught her how to
sew at the age of 8 and she has been hooked ever since. Along the way she realized that her dream was to help young girls have the same advantage.
As kids experience the joy and challenge of putting together a craft or sewing project, they are learning many of the skills that will help them to live successfully as adults: imagination, focus, perseverance, and resourcefulness, to name a few.
She started Cupcakes and Lace while she was still a student at a major New York City fashion college. C&L started as summer camps for Girl Scouts during her college summers. After graduation she continued to build her dream by offering full time sewing classes, Girl Scout workshops and parties. About 4 years ago she stumbled upon a space in a beautiful Victorian house in historic Aldie, Virginia. That is now the current home to her crafty studio!
She hopes to inspire young girls to reach their full potential as they grow into successful and creative young women. She is blessed that she gets to see tons of beautiful little faces eager to learn how to sew!
