DIY 18” American Girl Doll Camping Tent Craft Tutorial (Good Build A Bear Size too!)
At one of our recent summer camps in Northern Virginia, we crafted up tons of mini camping 
themed items for our 18” dolls!
The girls had a fun crafting day camp full of all things mini and camping themed! The girls made tents for their doll along with mini sleeping bags, campfire, sit-upon, and smores! They especially loved setting up their new camp scene at the end of the day! 
This is a great Girl Scout Encampment activity or fun for a hot summer day crafting at home! Want to make one for your own 18” doll or teddy bear? Check out the tutorial below! You will need:
- Flat un-assembled large cardboard box (We bought ours for less than $2 from Walmart. Dimensions are 18 by 18 by 24 in.)
- fabric (optional-we cut two triangles of fabric the same size as the front opening of the tent)
- stickers, clip art cut outs etc. (Really you can use any fun assorted craft materials to decorate your tent!)
- good scissors!
- hot glue with adult help or duck tape
How to Make:
- Start by cutting all 4 flaps off of the cardboard box. You may need adult help for this!
- Cut down the crease/folded edge of ONE long side…you want to create one flat piece of cardboard.
- Create a triangle tent shape! Shape the flattened box into a triangle shape. Two sections of
the cardboard box will be on top of each other (this will be the bottom of tent). - Hot glue with adult help or use duck tape to stick the bottom of tent flaps together.
- Use your imagination and creativity to embellish your tent! Use fabric or plastic tablecloths cut to create the front tent flaps! (You can get a huge plastic tablecloth in tons of assorted colors from the Dollar Tree or use fabric!) We used clip art images printed from computer and decoupaged them onto the box. Use stickers, markers, paint, craft gems, craft foam, pom poms, paper etc. to decorate!
- Lay your doll in the box with a little sleeping bag or blanket and enjoy a camp out!
