Girl Scout Nations Capital Annual 2015 Meeting & First Ever STEaM Maker Day! & DIY Pet Rocks Craft!
A few days ago Cupcakes and Lace participated for the second time at the Girl Scouts of the Nations Capital Annual 
Meeting and Maker Day for 2015!
Cupcakes and Lace is an official program partner with GSCNC. We had a fun time meeting tons of leaders and moms during the morning event. We had a booth at the meeting (along with some other local businesses that offer programs to Girl Scouts in our area). That day we found out that GSCNC is the largest council in the country! We feel very special to be a part of such an amazing and large council.
In the afternoon we participated in the councils first ever Maker Day! This was a great event where the girls could showcase their amazing creations and designs all centered around STEM. We saw some pretty amazing robots, and a few tables had products they made and sold. One troop of Junior girls had some pretty amazing lip balm they created and even had in the lip balm tubes! It was great to see all the creativity that day!
GSCNC asked Cupcakes and Lace to participate (we were the only small business there as all the other tables were projects made by the girls) and be the “A” for “Arts” in STEAM. We were thrilled that the “A” was finally added 
to STEaM! We showed the girls how to make pet rocks with fabric scraps, yarn, googley eyes and little mini cups were turned into a pet rock bed. They loved it!
Pet rocks are a great project to work towards your Junior Playing the Past badge (1970’s style!). Also you could make mini pet rocks and hot glue them to paper, hole punch a tiny hole and string a paper clip…then you have a cute SWAP idea!
