DIY Kids Flip Flop Tutorial-Reuse Fabric Scraps!

Here at Cupcakes and Lace, in one of our recent summer camps the girls www.cupcakesandlace.comsewed summer skirts and decorated flip flops!

Want to fill the hot summer days with a fun activity to do with your young girls?  This is a great summer crafting project or great idea for a birthday party!  This is also a great way to teach the girls about recycling and reusing…grab some of those extra fabric scraps lying around or head to the scrap/discount www.cupcakesandlace.co,bin at your local fabric store.

Fabric Flip Flop Supplies:

  • Flip Flops (you can buy them at most craft/fabric store or Dollar Tree-we got these from JoAnn’s when they were in the $1 sale section!)
  • Fabric scissors
  • Fabric scraps!

Fabric Flip Flop Instructions:

  1. Cut out TONS of fabric strips about 1 inch wide by 6-8 inches www.cupcakesandlace.comlong.  We had the girls cut fairly long strips of fabric because it is easier for them to tie it onto the flip flip.  You can always trim shorter when you are done.  The girls cut about 40 strips of fabric but it depends on the fabrics etc and how “full” you want the flip flops to look.
  2. Once you cut out a bunch of strips you can start to tie them onto the flip flop.  Starting from the center of the foot strap double knot tightly.  Keep doing this (keeping the strips very close together so no strap shows) until you have filled the whole strap on both flip flops.
  3. Trim as desired!  Now you are ready to make a fabulous appearance at the beach!
