1950’s Poodle Skirts & Playing The Past Girl Scout Badge

In one of our recent sewing classes we taught a Girl Scout troop how to make poodle skirts!

The girls are working towards their Playing the Past Junior badge and decided to come to us for help sewing the skirts!  This badge focuses on learning about people of the past-how they lived, worked, played, what they ate and more!

We showed the girls how to work the sewing machine, by doing a simple practice fabric sheet.  Then we went right into making the skirts!  The girls got a chance to cut out their own poodle and embellish with pastel pom poms.  We even had time to make some cute 1950’s inspired purses…with vintage telephones and radio printed fabrics.

The girls had a great time and now they are one step closer to finishing their Playing the Past badge!
