In some of our recent Girl Scout crafting classes here in Chantilly, Virginia we started making these adorable denim jean recycled purses! This is a great project to work towards your Girl Scout Playing the Past Junior badge!  Brownies this could be a fun idea for Its Your Planet Love It.  I am sure it can be worked into several journeys and badges!  This is eco friendly and a great way to re-use old jeans. Camping season is finally here and we have a great American Girl Doll or Teddy Bear sized craft for you! See below to make a mini fire pit for your favorite doll or stuffed animal...or just for fun!  You only need a few supplies.   Cupcakes and Lace Mini Fire Pit Supplies: Small piece of cardboard or card stock paper for the base of the fire small rocks (can buy these at Dollar Tree) or find a local creek or stream! yellow, orange, and/or red tissue paper or  regular paper scissors tacky glue Popsicle sticks How to Make: Start by cutting your base for the fire pit.  We use a small piece of cardboard cut.  You can also use card stock or thick paper. A few days ago Cupcakes and Lace participated for the second time at the Girl Scouts of the Nations Capital Annual Meeting and Maker Day for 2015! Cupcakes and Lace is an official program partner with GSCNC.  We had a fun time meeting tons of leaders and  moms during the morning event.  We had a booth at the meeting (along with some other local businesses that offer programs to Girl Scouts in our area).  That day we found out that GSCNC is the largest council in the country!  We feel very special to be a part of such an amazing and large council. Sew Your Own Earth Day Inspired Pillow: Kids Sewing Project Idea

Today is Earth Day!  At our after school class at Arcola Elementary in Aldie, Virginia we showed the girls how to sew the cutest globe pillows. We used a pretty blue cotton fabric for the circle globe shape.  We cut a circle about 12 by 12 inches.  Then the girls sewed the globe right sides together and a little hole.  We turned right side out and stuffed it up with pillow fluff!  Next we hand stitched up the opening. Janome Sew Mini 10 Stitch Color Sewing Machines are a great machine for any beginner sewer...especially kids! Here at our Cupcakes and Lace sewing studio for young girls in Chantilly, Virginia we have been using the Janome Sew Mini 2 Stitch Sewing Machine for about 8 years now!  First off we would like to mention that this machine IS NOT A TOY.  This is a great beginner machine and we use them in all of our sewing classes for girls in 2nd-8th grade.
